But in this arrangement, the melody creeps down into the bass clef and spends most of the time there! Easy middle-C version of the Pachelbel Canon melody, free! Printable piano sheet music for beginners.
Even beginners will do well with this melody, as it moves step by step – a lot like Wormies! However, though the Canon in D piano music is easy to PLAY at this beginner level, it is still a bit baffling to READ especially with chord symbols. Many of those chord symbols have the same names as the notes above which they are placed. Fortunately, the first note of the “song” is Middle C, perhaps your student’s favorite note. As for the Secondo, it is pretty easy to determine which hand plays what notes, by looking at the direction of the stems. One way I love to treat the Canon is to insist kids memorize the chord pattern right away. My favorite method is to describe how many steps the bass line moves, and which direction. That description goes like this: “Tonic, down 4, up 1, down 4, up 1, down 4, turn around 4, up 1, START OVER” I love the pattern in this chord progression. More accurately, you could describe the pattern as “Down a 4th, up a 2nd,” etc.
2 has no chord symbols and no fingering at all, perhaps your student’s favorite note. Others need to learn and practise to become competant. D sheet music, but he wanted to play a version with the quickly-moving notes of the middle section, the familiar part that even non-musicians recognize. I’m excited for you to see the confidence with which your young students will embark on a long and beautiful piece like this with the note names to confirm or correct what their ears may be telling them! 1 has a letter in each music notehead, plus chord symbols and some suggested fingering. 2 has no chord symbols and no fingering at all, for there is a possibility that you or your students might prefer a different fingering.
The chord symbols are retained, as well as the suggested fingering for the middle section, but only a few helper notes are used. Those are placed mostly at the beginning of a musical line, the beginning of a new section, and the tricky middle section where the hand must execute tucking-under and crossing-over.
