Dust mites are everywhere. They live in your bed linens, bed and pillows. Gross! There are special “dust mite resistant” casings that you can purchase to cover pillows and mattresses to keep them out. Wash your bed linens in hot water once per week to kill dust mites, too.
If you desire to have a pet, despite having allergies, get a pet that has short fur. All warm-blooded animals have the potential for causing allergy problems. Those with long hair or copious feathers are the worst! Don’t let you pets sleep in your bed if you don’t want to have an allergic reaction.
Make sure your lavatory is well-ventilated if you want to keep mildew and mold at bay. These particular allergens thrive in environments that are moist and warm. Hang wet washcloths and towels up to dry, and keep a fan running while you shower. You could also open a window a little bit or turn on an air vent.
Pollen counts are higher and lower at different times of the day. Try to make the times you go outside happen in the wee morning hours, or late at night. There are lower amounts of pollen during these times, so optimize these time periods.
